2022 LEADERSHIP TRAINING

The 2022 Sunrise leadership training took place at the University of Fort Hare, East London Campus. All four Sunrise branches (University of Fort Hare - East London Branch & Alice Branch) (Walter Sisulu University - Queenstown branch & Mthatha Branch) were represented. The Eastern Cape Provincial Executive Committee members were also present. The programme Directors (Ms D. Qatana & Ms X.Ntusi) commenced the training at 11:00 and concluded around 16:00.
The opening prayer was done by Ntokoza Mayedwa, Mr M. Bomoyi welcomed all leaders and wished them a productive day. Ms Luvo Sobuza (Chairperson - Sunrise UFH East London Branch) introduce Sunrise and Mr M. Xokiso informed the leaders of the purpose of the day. An introduction of the Provincial Executive Committee members was done by Ms X. Ntusi.
Mr M. Qangule presented the duties and responsibilities of the Chairperson. In his presentation he referred to a book titled "The Way of the Shepherd: 7 Ancient Secrets to Managing Productive People". Ms S. Zulani presented the duties and responsibilities of the Secretary emphasizing the importance of record keeping (filling all documents). Nr M. Xokiso presented the duties and responsibilities of the Treasurer in which he explained that a Treasurer should have excellent record keeping skills. Ms I. Qwane presented the duties and responsibilities of the Events Manager which she regarded as a vital portfolio as it is upon this office to deliver all events as they appear on the POA. Ms I. Qwane also presented the duties and responsibilities of the Marketing and Public Relations Officer who is expected to ensure that the organisation is marketed to students and other stakeholders. The duties and responsibilities of the Disciplinary Committee were presented by Mr T. Matsemela, touching on the importance of respecting assets of the organisation.
After the presentation, Mr T. Matsemela introduced the Guest Speaker (Ms N. Mqolo). The guest speaker touched on the importance of "leadership and mental health". She also highlighted the importance of consulting other members whenever one is not certain with their duties. She also referenced a scripture that reads as follows "where there is no guidance, a nation falls, but in an abundance of counselors there is safety" (Proverb 11:14).
The Aim of the leadership training is to ensure that the 2022 elected leaders are well capacitated with the necessary information that will assist them in leading their respective branches. At the end of the training all leaders received certificates of attendance and participation. We are certain that 2022 will be a productive year for all branches and the Provincial Executive Committee.
